Parks and reserves nearby

Kimana Gate is 1.6 km away: you drive through it as soon as it opens, at 6 a.m. The camp runs game drives at extra cost, and you can also drive your own 4x4. The park is small, 392 km², and you can cover it in a day.

At sunrise, Kilimanjaro comes clear behind the herds, then disappears into the clouds by mid-morning. The elephants, tracked one by one since 1972, spend the hot hours in the swamps. Observation Hill is the only place where you get out of the vehicle, for a view over the swamps and the mountain.
